Special Education Needs (SEN) at Club Kingswood Nursery

Here at Club Kingswood Nursery we believe all children should be included, no matter their race, ethnicity, ability or background.

At Club Kingswood Nursery we strive to provide an environment in which all children are supported to reach their full potential. We follow the Department of Education and Skills (DFES) special education needs code of practice and we try to provide a broad curriculum which uses the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which meets the specific needs of children.

This allows all nursery practitioners and key people to identify any learning outcomes of specific needs accordingly.

We aim to offer excellence and choice to all of our children no matter their abilities, religion, culture or background and ensure they feel valued within the nursery. Staff respond to all children’s needs by listening and paying attention to the opinion of the child, adult and family members.

Staff use planning to target each child’s individual need and ability.

The nursery ensures it is up to date with all regulations, safeguarding children’s acts and policies and special educations needs training and policies.

Club Kingswood Nursery uses a variety of outside agencies and advisors including Essex County Council, local children’s centres and area SENCO.

The role of the SENCO within the nursery is to manage the day to day operation of the SEN policy, in order to make all colleagues, parents and carers aware of all policies and to supply knowledge and support where needed.

The nursery SENCO will liaise with any outside agency that may be used within any child’s care, keep all records of any SEN child and keep parents informed and involved.

Their role is to also keep all staff members up to date with new developments and materials for special educational needs and to manage a range of resources to enable appropriate provisions for all children.
